"My husband, Raymond G. Birchett U.S.A.F. Ret. was at Rougham on Christmas Eve "44. He told of that night and how the whole of England was socked in by weather. He said that it was an amazing sight to see all the returning planes landing at Rougham because that was the only field left open by the weather. He said there were crews all over the place trying to find a place to rest. My husband talked about it after we read a poem about that mission, "Christmas Eve in 'Fourty-Four" written by Patrick Muse, dedicated to pilot Lt.'s Walter Ullrey and William O'Brien.
